iman turned from loving his cars, lorries, busses, trains and drum set to cranes, numbers, colors, guitars and stickers.
one day, i found him rummaging my stationary box in the TV room. after a minute or two, he finally decided what to play with from his search. it was the small white stickers.
from the corner of the room, i saw... him peeling the stickers off, sticking them on his face and peeling them off of his face. occasionally, i hear him wailing. sakit kan?

iman OR amai
|
|
Some 3 months ago, ONE - iman thinks his name is ‘Amai’. TWO – he knows he’s Jazyl’s big brother.
Tok mama : What is your name aling (darling)?
Iman : Amai… Ni amai… (pointing at his chest at the same time)
Tok mama : No aling. Iman Hezrin is your name. ‘Amai’ is my son. Your uncle.
Iman : No.. mama (tok mama). Ni ‘amai’. Not ‘man’. ‘Amai’!
Tok mama : Now I miss my dear son even more… (holding back her tears..)
Me : La….
Note : ‘Amai’ is my younger brother’s nick name.
And on another occasion…
Iman : Mama, ni ‘aban man’ (abang iman) (pointing at his chest at the same time)
Me : So, you are an abang now, yes ?
Iman : Yes! Ni ‘aban man’. There ‘adek jazz’ (pointing to wide-opened mouth nephew of mine)

darling husband and my sister have finally done with their purchases of the lighting units for our respective bird nests. being the person who is relatively has all the time to herself, i took charge on each fittings at our bird nest. my sister had to reschedule her appointment with the electrician so that my time could fit in.
so after feeding iman his food for breakfast, i rushed to kl to meet the electrician. after a short explanation on the lighting units and curtain rods, i bathe iman. kesian iman. he had to take a quickie cold bath. blame ibu as she doesn’t know how the built-in water heater works.
after ours were done, it was my sister’s unit’s turn. since her office is just a 2 bocks away, she arrived in a blink. she brought us lunch too! yaaayyy….so, after spending 4 hours at our bird nest, we went home. took some photos for darling husband’s citation. he loves them! he was just too occupied with work, study and our honey pot. kesian daddy…
here’s iman’s word of the day every time he peep at the cracked-glass lighting unit in red.
iman : mama, there. (points at the lights)
me : do you like it? it was daddy’s pick.
iman : nice mama. nice…..
alahai… my son is very appreciative. he appreciates those little things that we sometimes overlooked.

my 29 months old little man is such a chatterbox. he is as friendly as his daddy. on a few occasions, my little chatterbox chats with the cashiers at the grocers, sales assistants at the retail outlets, raises his right hand acknowledging the presence of every security guards he passes by at the malls, banks and the club.
nonetheless, i wonder what iman had done to jazyl not too long ago. jazyl is now learning imitating iman’s stunts and actions. his transformation into ‘another’ iman was mind boggling when i know iman is one rowdy little dude who has 2 seconds of attention span, refuses to sit still and concentrate and swears by rock numbers.
i’m positive my parents didn’t call for ‘another’ iman in the family. having my iman in their home drive them nuts most of the time. ha ha ha… now you know where the energy does come from. definitely NOT from me! my iman throws everything he sees in my mama’s living, making a lotta noise is what he’s good at, dribbles my mama’s round-shaped throw cushion (which iman literally thinks that it is a real ball – very imaginative!), rumbles in my parents’ bed, plays with my dad’s golf clubs collection and swings the club in the air and almost get bibik su (mama’s maid) hurt, seeks attention from everybody he sees in the house etc.
it was amazingly strange having seen jazyl transformed from a very well-mannered little dude into a soon to be a junior monster. initially, he was quiet, like i said over and over again, well-mannered, focused on what he’s watching or playing. but things changed over a week under the influence of a senior monster.
his is now slightly noisy, playful, just as comical as iman, reckless, copies his ‘abang’ in mostly everything.
my parents admitted that how iman’s behaving now is just like how i was when i was in my terrible two. playful, seeks attention from my parents, rumbles in my parents’ bed most of the time (excludes the rowdiness). on the other hand, jazyl is very much like his mama. quiet, loner and independent! both characters are poles apart, you see. so, that explains why my sister and i didn’t get along well when we were younger.
despite of the other extreme, im convinced that iman and jazyl will get along very well.

wannabe part II
|
|
remember the tale about the minahsalleh wannabe? here’s an update. for some who knows me well, they rarely hear me gossiping about anybody but this one is exceptional.
a couple of days ago, the agent called up saying that she backed out impolitely. "i think aah puan azurin, she thinks the rent is too high laa. saya juga rasa dia macam ada orang sponsor tau. she answers my calls only at night. she calls me only at night. she has never answer my calls or reply sms tengahari ke, petang ke… dia org singapore saja bukan orang putih" he chuckles.
mua ha ha ha… it was the joke of the week! my husband burst into big laughter when i told him the tale.
folks, i never judge anyone from one’s outer layer. i have never under estimate anyone. never did. never will. but janganla become a joker; portray yourself a well-off being, driving a vroom vroom worth half a mil, accessorize yourself with expensive stuffs but couldn’t afford to rent our bird nest at the proposed price? have some courtesy laa...
maybe what the agent said about her being sponsored is true… he he he… buat malu melayu je!
so who’s next? roll the next tenant!

iman corrects us whenever he thinks he’s right.
one quiet night, darling husband, iman and i went to kedai runcit down the road to buy some bread. in the car…
iman : mama, there! (taps my shoulder and points at the dark sky)
me : hey, what’s that sayang? do you know what it is?
iman : (grins) there moon! (points at the moon)
me : yes, you’re right sayang. oh, other than the moon, do know what else you can see in the sky?
iman : mmph?! (tilts his head and looks up at the sky again)
me : i saw stars…
iman : no mama! there moon! not ‘ta’ (star). not ‘ta’ (star), mama. (stressing there’s only the moon up in the sky)
he then continues banging his head to the rock number darling husband play on his radio.
